Bespoke shirts make an enormous difference to the final look of an outfit and as they are the closest item to a man’s skin we advise careful consideration when selecting the fabric and where you buy them from.
Every shirt at Marc Oliver is individually crafted to ensure it meets our exacting standards of construction, design and fit. We know from experience that the way a fabric is cut and then sewn has a significant influence on the final outcome and comfort of a shirt. However, first class construction, and a flawless cut count for nothing if your shirt does not fit correctly or is made from a low-grade fabric. Marc Oliver shirts come in two main fittings regular or slim fit and these are carefully discussed with the client during the measuring process, so we understand their preferences.
Most clients have an initial idea of what they are looking for however we are happy to recommend some of our many designs after understanding their needs. There are up to eleven different collar styles, classic to the more contemporary, these can be combined with a choice of up to seven different cuff styles. We find that choice of collar and fitting is largely down to personal taste although there are still a few basic style considerations for us to observe to ensure the shirt is suitable and will flatter our client’s body shape once made.
If you are new to tailoring these choices may seem slightly daunting at first however we find most people love the variety and are keen to try more than one style over time. One of the most important decisions to consider when ordering a new shirt is to decide on what you would like to wear it with. This helps with the following decisions on style and cloth. For example, casual and half sleeve shirts have a have a very different shape and style to a formal day shirt and because of this they differ significantly in fabric and cut.
A majority of our shirts are made using extra-long Egyptian cotton in soft yet strong two-fold compositions as these fabrics perform brilliantly allowing us to create a sharper crisper look that delivers supreme comfort. Our extensive collection of shirt fabrics come in a variety of the most popular weaves including classic herringbones, poplins or even a softer more casual oxford weaves.
